Based in New York City and founded in 2001 by Joshua Liberson and Ethan Trask, Helicopter was born with the idea that design done well not only heightens the sensory experience of the consumer but also serves as a principal driver of successful business development. In its first years the firm specialized in the development of strong print editorial brands for companies such as Conde Nast and Time/Warner as well as identity and packaging design for visual artists and the music industry. Helicopter’s integrative approach to design and business expanded its reach to include systems, strategy and interactive platforms for companies ranging from top New York art galleries to global media giants.
Helicopter's work has been honored by AIGA, I.D. Magazine, Print Magazine, Grafik Magazine and the Art Directors Club. The 60th Anniversary box set the firm designed for Capitol Records was a Grammy Award nominee, the launch of Domino magazine was AdWeek's magazine of the year and the Keith Haring monograph released by Rizzoli received a 2009 New York Book Show Award. Recent clients include Waterworks, The Wall Street Journal and One Kings Lane.
